PHONICS

Watch the video closely and listen to what you are asked to do. The sounds will be pronounced for you the first you see them (listen to how to say each one) and then you will have the opportunity to say them yourself the second time through.

Complete this for Set 1, 2 and 3 sounds.

Repeat and watch the video a second time to practise any sounds you found tricky.

This is an opportunity for your child to read a book to you. They can choose to read their book bag book that they will have from school. You can also visit the oxford owl website and choose a book of the same level for them to read to you.

Please ensure that you spend time talking about the words/vocabulary at the beginning of the book before you start and that you talk about the questions at the end of the book as well.

ENGLISH

Spellings – eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen

These are just some of the words that we need to practise and know how to spell by the end of our time in year 1. Take one word at a time and show children what the word looks like written down before they have a go at writing it. Talk about the pattern of letters or the sounds you can hear in that word. Cover the word up and ask the children to try and remember how it is spelt.

Repeat with all the other words. Practise any of the words they found tricky again.

Extension: try to put each of the words into a short sentence.

MATHS

You will need the ‘How much money in the purse?’ worksheet. You may also wish to use actual coins if you have them at home as well to support.

We are going to be trying to work out how much money is in each jar on the worksheet. You will need to look closely at the value of each coin in the jar and then add them together.

For example if there are 3 1p coins in the jar we simply add 1p + 1p + 1p = 3p

However if the 3 coins were all of 2p in value we would add 2p + 2p + 2p = 6p

Again if we had two 5p coins and a 2p coin we would need to add 5p + 5p + 2p = 12p

You could use actual coins (if you have access to them at home) to support in seeing the difference in value and what you will need to add together to find the total in each jar.

ENRICHMENT

Make a Spanish flag

We would like you to have a go at making your own Spanish flag this afternoon. We have attached a very basic outline of the flag for you to use. However, you will need to add the details. Colour the three sections in red and yellow as required using whichever art media you like – paint, pen, pencil, crayon, chalk, collage materials etc…

Then have a go at copying and drawing the emblem needed to go on the flag. Look closely at all the details used in the design and have the best go you can. Attach it to your flag.

Add a flag pole/stick to your flag using an appropriate material – straw, lolly stick, cardboard etc..
