This week

We hope you had a good break last week!

This half term our topic will be ‘Dinosaurs’. We will be finding out about different types of dinosaurs over the next couple of weeks. We will also be carrying out some investigations.

Our topic will move on from dinosaurs to recycling and healthy eating.

We are continuing to work on our sounds and practising reading and writing words.

Keep going with all your hard work and we look forward to seeing more work from you this week!

(There are no worksheets today)

Practice Start by practising all sounds we have learnt so far!

Use the powerpoint from last half term to work through the sounds. It is important that children practice the sounds at the beginning of each RWI session.

As we build our word knowledge through our RWI sessions we learn to read simple words. The sets of green cards link to the different sounds that we learn. Today we are going to read some words with - ay, ee, igh. Click on the link for a short video

Word writing

When we are learning to read, we often come across words we haven’t seen before. We can use our sounds we know to break, sound out, the word. We can then ‘blend’ those sounds together to read the word.

Today we are going to work on alien words – these are made up words but help us lots when we are learning to read. Ask your grown up to sound out the word, do you know what the alien word is? Can you write it down – then read what you have written.

 t-u-d                       ch-i-f                                  l-u-th

n-ay                         sh-a-b                                f-ee-n

Key words – Practice reading key words from the powerpoint given last half term.

Have a go at writing the following words – we are going to practice these everyday … ‘practice makes perfect’! (Ask your adult to read them out for you –

it                    at                         in                        the              me                is

Apart from school work what have you been doing? Half term? Write down 3 things that you have done. It could be anything – playing with your toys, baking a cake, going for a walk.

You can have a go at writing the sentences or you can write down the words to show what you did. Have a go at using your sounds to write each word.

A picture to go with it would be lovely

We look forward to seeing how you spent your half term week.

This week we are going to work on doubling numbers. We are going to practice with using objects and then move onto to writing down our answers. To begin with you will need to go on to Education City and have a look at the learn screen ‘Double the fun’ which will teach you about doubling.

Can you use your toys to make doubles? Find one thing – maybe a car or a teddy – you have one car if you were to double the number you had you would have 2. Find other toys you can do this with until you have worked on doubles to 5.

We need to try to remember all of our doubles so that we can give a quick answer when we are asked – what is double…?

Keep practising!

We are going to try to find and learn some fun facts about dinosaurs. This doesn’t have to be written down but if you or your grown up want to write them down that would be fine too!

Have a look on:

and click on the ‘dinosaur’ tab. There are fun, cartoon dinosaurs on this site. Choose about 4 dinosaurs to find fun facts.
