Timetable for this week

Tuesday

RWI

Use the website provided on the timetable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3HRX2ywbog

Watch the video closely and listen to what you are asked to do. The sounds will be pronounced for you the first you see them (listen to how to say each one) and then you will have the opportunity to say them yourself the second time through.

Complete this for Set 1, 2 and 3 sounds.

Repeat and watch the video a second time to practise any sounds you found tricky.

ENGLISH

We hope you all had a lovely holiday and are all safe and well.

For your English work today we would like to know what you got up to during your holidays. Please draw us a picture to show something from your holidays. Then please write some ideas/sentences to tell us about what you did. Remember to use a capital letter at the beginning of every sentence and put a full stop at the end.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using your class email address.

MATHS

You will need the + and – calculation sheet from the website and a pencil today. Don’t worry if you can’t print the sheet, you can copy one calculation at a time and answer it just as you would from the white board at school.

The sheet is split into 2 sections. Answer as many of these calculations as you can in Section 1. If you manage to complete all of these then move on to section 2 as well. If you are finding the calculations tricky by the end of section 1 then you can stop there. Remember to think carefully about the different strategies we have been using in school. Counting on/back from the largest number.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using you class email address.

TOPIC

Use the PowerPoint provided to have good understanding about castles and the different parts that they have. Ask an adult to help you read through each slide and find out about each part. Our activity will be to label the different parts of a castle. Once you’ve done that, you will then have to colour it in.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using you class email address.

Wednesday

RWI

You will need the ‘ow’ and ‘ou’ writing sheet.

Our sounds for today are ‘ou’ and ‘ow’. Before you complete the activity, say the sounds first, look at the pictures in each box and then write the words that match each picture by sounding them out each time. Once you have completed the first part of the activity, you will then need to choose 4 objects and put the words into an interesting sentence.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using your class email address.

ENGLISH

You will need to use your labelled castle sheet that you completed yesterday.

Based on the ‘castle’ activity you did yesterday, describe what you can see making sure you start your sentences with a capital letter and end them with a full stop. We also want you to impress us and use some wow words! e.g. because, with, but etc.

Use the names of the different parts to help you write your sentences.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using your class email address.

MATHS

You will need the missing number calculation to 10 sheet (addition) from the website to complete. Don’t worry if you can’t print the sheet, you can copy one calculation at a time and answer it just as you would from the white board at school. You may also wish to use the missing number calculation to 20 sheet when you have completed the first one.

For each calculation that we have given you, one of the numbers is missing. To work out what that missing number is you will need to count on in your head.

For example in the calculation 5 + ___ = 9, you will put the number 5 in your head. You then need to count forward until you reach 9. Put one finger up for each number you count on – the number of fingers you have up at the end should be the missing number for that calculation. So you would count the numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 and have 4 fingers up. Your missing number = 4.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using your class email address.

TOPIC

For PE this week we will be following a program of your choice by Joe Wicks

During the first lockdown, Joe Wicks ran a daily PE session that you could follow along to. These are all still available on his website: https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1

Either find a ‘PE with Joe’ video or a ‘Wake up with Joe’ video of your choice and have fun keeping up with him and the activities.

Thursday

RWI

You will need the ‘ow’ and ‘ou’ phoneme spotter worksheet.

For today’s activity, we will be looking at the sounds ‘ou’ and ‘ow’ that we have been learning yesterday. This time we will try and spot these sounds and underline or highlight any words that contain these sounds.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using your class email address.

ENGLISH

You will need the ‘Zoom to the moon’ reading comprehension sheet.

Your activity for today is to read the Zoom to the moon sentences in order (try to do this as independently as you can). Once you have finished reading the text, try to answer the questions about what you have read.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using your class email address.

MATHS

You will need the missing number calculation to 10 sheet (subtraction) from the website to complete. Don’t worry if you can’t print the sheet, you can copy one calculation at a time and answer it just as you would from the white board at school. You may also wish to use the missing number calculation to 20 sheet when you have completed the first one.

For each calculation that we have given you, one of the numbers is missing. To work out what that missing number is you will need to count back in your head.

For example in the calculation 10 - ___ = 7, you will put the number 10 in your head. You then need to count backward until you reach 7. Put one finger up for each number you count back – the number of fingers you have up at the end should be the missing number for that calculation. So you would count the numbers 9, 8 and 7 and have 3 fingers up. Your missing number = 3.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using your class email address.

TOPIC

You will need to use your art activity sheet to draw your own castle.

Follow the instructions step by step to draw your castle. You will then need to decorate it as you wish.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using your class email address.

Friday

READING

This is an opportunity for your child to read a book to you. They can choose to read their book bag book that they will have from school. You can also visit the oxford owl website and choose a book of the same level for them to read to you.

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/free-ebooks/

Please ensure that you spend time talking about the words/vocabulary at the beginning of the book before you start and that you talk about the questions at the end of the book as well.

ENGLISH

Spellings – push, pull, full, put, house

These are just some of the words that we need to practise and know how to spell by the end of our time in year 1. Take one word at a time and show children what the word looks like written down before they have a go at writing it. Talk about the pattern of letters or the sounds you can hear in that word. Cover the word up and ask the children to try and remember how it is spelt.

Repeat with all the other words. Practise any of the words they found tricky again.

Extension: try to put each of the words into a short sentence.

Ask your adult to send your completed work into school using your class email address.

MATHS

Online activity – use the following website: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

On here you will find many different maths based challenges. Today we would like you to look at any of the following options: Make 10, Addition within 10 or missing numbers with + and –

Once you have selected any of these options you will be given a time to complete as many calculations as you can based on that skill. You will need to count on or back in your head to find the answers as quickly as you can. Play them several times and see if you can beat your score each time.

ENRICHMENT

We have been looking at castles this week in our topic work.

This afternoon we would like you to draw or make your own castle. You can choose to do this in whatever way you like:

  • Draw your own castle using pencils
  • Paint a picture of a castle
  • Use lego/blocks to build a castle
  • Find some old boxes (recycling items) and build a castle
  • Use a drawing app on a device and draw a castle on there

Or any other method you choose.

Have fun!

Ask your adult to send a picture of your completed work into school using your class email address.
