# WC4.1.21

Hello Year 2's,

As you will be aware, we are having to adapt the way that we work for a while, to ensure that everyone is kept safe. At the start of the week, we will upload the weekly timetable so that you have an overview of the compulsory learning that you will need to complete. We will be uploading your daily work at the start of each day. Under each day's heading, it will give you more information about the work set out in the timetable.

There will be 3 or 4 compulsory activities to complete each day, usually English, maths, sound work and topic. There will also be a box at the bottom of the page titled 'additional learning activities'. These are optional, but will be closely linked to our learning so that you will be able to challenge yourself and consolidate topics that we have learned whilst in school.

Please send your completed daily tasks to the appropriate Year 2 email, either owls@priory-common.milton-keynes.sch.uk or badgers@priory-common.milton-keynes.sch.uk    A member of the Year 2 team will respond to you the day after that you have submitted the work. We will respond to each piece of work with a 'Star and a Wish'.

A star: Positive feedback on specific learning, eg hitting learning criteria, tried extremely hard, neat handwriting.

A wish: Feedback to challenge and/or extend your learning, or to remind you of non-negotiables in writing, eg capital letters for proper nouns.

Keep up the hard work and show your adults at home how hard-working you all are!

Please keep in touch and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask :)

Many thanks,

The Year Two Team.

## Weekly timetable

Tuesday

Maths – Tuesday

You will need the + and – calculation sheet from the website and a pencil today.  Don’t worry if you can’t print the sheet, you can copy one calculation at a time and answer it just as you would from the white board at school.

Answer as many of these calculations as you can.  Remember to think carefully about the different strategies that we have been using in school.  Counting on/back from the largest number, counting in steps of 10, using partition and recombine.

English - Tuesday

You will need: A pencil and some lined paper.

In your neatest writing, write a recount of your Christmas holidays. Tell us all about your time over the two week Christmas holidays using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Challenge yourself to use extend your sentences, using the words: and, but, because.

Simple sentence: On Monday I watched a funny film.

Extended sentence: The next day I played with my brother and then we had a hot chocolate. I had a great holiday because I got a special Christmas present.

Sound work- Tuesday

You will need: laptop/tablet/phone

With an adult, use the video to recap your sounds. How many do you remember? Can you write the sounds into any words?

PE – Tuesday

You will need: Laptop/Tablet/Phone

With an adult, use the below link and complete the exercise class.

Maths – Wednesday

You will need paper and pencil for today’s work.

Write down your 2, 5 and 10 times table.  You need to do all 3 sets of tables but can choose the order you work on them.

Eg:          1 x 2 = 2

2 x 2 = 4

Up to

10 x 2 = 20

You may be able to find the answers by counting in steps or you may need to draw arrays or count out sets of objects to help you with this.

Once you’ve recorded all 3 tables have a go at chanting them.  Once you’ve had a practise ask your adult to hold your paper so you can’t see it and try to say each set of tables with out looking at your paper.

Ask your adult to email your work to us.  Adult’s please write a brief comment on how your child did when asked to chant the tables without looking at their paper.  Were they able to do this for all the tables?  Were they able to do this at speed?

NB: If your child can already chant the 2, 5 and 10 times tables at speed challenge them by firing mixed tables at them to check their rapid recall.

English - Wednesday

You will need: A phone/tablet/laptop

You will need: The Gruffalo book cover picture, a plain piece of paper, a drawing pencil and colouring pencils.

Use the step by step artist technique to recreate the Gruffalo book cover including author/illustrator etc. There should be no white spaces on the page and remember that you can use one colour to create different tones of a colour.

Maths – Thursday

You will need a phone, tablet, computer or laptop for today’s work.

Log on to MyMaths. Sign in to your own portal.  (You will find this information on your home learning card you took home last term.)  Go to your homework tab and find todays work ‘Mixed tables 2, 5, 10’.  Complete the lesson first and then the homework.  I know some of you have already taken part in this lesson previously.  If you have look at your score for the homework and try and do even better this time.  Remember practise makes perfect.  (You will find your previous score under the purple scores tab.)

Design a new character for the Gruffalo ready for tomorrow’s English lesson. Think about the Gruffalo and he has purple prickles, knobbly knees, turned out toes and a wart on the end of his nose. Create your own character and label it by changing the features. We will write detailed sentences about this character for our English lesson tomorrow.

Maths – Friday

You will need the x and ÷ challenge cards, paper and a pencil today.  You don’t need to print the cards.

Work your way through all the challenge cards.

If you find any question card particularly tricky ask your adult to help.  Adult please do encourage your child to have a go at each challenge first.  If you do support them please record AS (adult support) by each question number where you have provided support.  (You do not need to do this if you have just supported by reading the question, however if you have discussed what to do this would require a AS.)
