Upon entering Year 1, your child begins their journey through the Key Stage 1 curriculum which will last for 2 years. The purpose of the curriculum in Year 1 is to consolidate the skills and knowledge they acquired throughout obtain and develop basic skills and knowledge across a range of subjects.
In English we have dedicated lessons to both reading and writing. Their reading lessons focus on the skills of decoding, reading accurately and fluently and developing basic comprehension of the texts they read. The reading books that they bring home will be at an appropriate phonic level and will be available for the children to change on a regular basis. Their writing lessons focus on developing the presentation of their handwriting as well as spelling, punctuation.
In Maths, we again build on the knowledge gained in Early Years and develop their skills in number and number facts, simple calculations involving all four operations, fractions, both 2D and 3D shapes and measures.
