As your child moves into Year 2, they will be accessing a curriculum that has been designed to build on the skills and knowledge gained during their time in Year 1. By the end of Year 2, children will have developed their skills and gained further knowledge, across a range of subjects, in preparation for their transition to Key Stage 2 (Junior school).
Their English lessons will include comprehension, spelling, punctuation, grammar, composition and handwriting. The reading books that they bring home will be at an appropriate level and will be available for the children to change on a regular basis.
The Year 2 mathematics curriculum ensures that children are secure with their number facts and can calculate across the four operations, both mentally and through the use of appropriate written methods. When they are ready, the children move onto applying these skills to varying problems ensuring maths is experienced in real life contexts and calculations do not become abstract.
